Summary
Social life is a widespread strategy that brings unique benefits but also costs, such as increased disease spread. Ants are highly social yet accessible for experiments, making them ideal systems to study how animals balance the costs and benefits of sociality. Experiments with clonal raider ants could help us understand why some individuals in a group become infected before others and why disease spreads faster in some social groups than others.
