Prof. Van Dam's group at the Institute for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops unravels the chemical and molecular mechanisms that govern multitrophic interactions with a special focus on plant-mediated interactions between aboveground and belowground herbivores. Her research advances ecological-evolutionary theories on optimal defense allocation in plants and has implications for integrated pest management and sustainable agriculture.
The goal of Franziska Beran’s research group at the Institute for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops is to understand the role of plant metabolites and the genes coding for their production in plant biotic interactions. The knowledge generated provides the scientific basis for sustainable plant production and the reduction of pesticide use.
