This introductory demonstration course for Adobe Illustrator will provide you with a basic understanding of the benefits of vector graphics when it comes to preparing talk slides, journal figures and conference posters based on your scientific results.
We will discuss some general principles like file formats, color spaces, resolution demands and the joint workflow of Illustrator and Photoshop.
Further, you will get insight into the various creative options of Illustrator to generate schematics, and compose complex figures through:

  • Various drawing tools
  • Selection types and grouping
  • Layering and clipping
  • Image embedding and conversion of pixel graphics into vector files
  • Clean object arrangement by rulers, guides and alignments
  • Object transformations
  • More complex modifications like shape builder and various line width

If you have Illustrator available, I will provide a set of files that will allow you to join me while I am generating a complex figure from scratch. Otherwise, I can recommend using the free trial version available under:
