My general research interest deals with the combination of form and function. Describing how and why a particular anatomical structure is shaped to serve a certain function is my goal.

In detail I am working on this in the olfactory system of the vinegar fly Drosophila melanogaster. I am generating an in vivo atlas of the antennal lobe subunits, the glomeruli, supporting other techniques such as optical imaging or photoactivation in the respective tissue.
In addition I am working together with Amelie Baschwitz on a detailed glomerulus specific mapping of the connectivity between input and output neurons.
Another project with Dr. Martin Strube-Bloss investigates the impact of local interneurons on the representation of odor responses at the pre- and postsynaptic level of the Drosophila antennal lobe.
