"Camera & Canvas" – The Science Video & Communication Workshop

Block 1: Theory (20 min) - Script writing and storytelling for the video.
We start with the script. Students learn how to translate a 5-year, highly technical PhD thesis into a compelling
60-second hook. We cover how to strip away jargon without dumbing down the science.
Block 2: Practicals (20 min) - Students will write the script & present it.

Break (10min)

Block 3: Theory (20 min) - How to make a 1min video? (Posture, Modulations, confidence, technical tools
& editing tools)
Practical production hacks. Students learn the three pillars of low-budget, high-quality video: framing,
lighting (using natural light), and capturing clean audio without an expensive microphone and record their first
video.
Block 4: Practicals (20 min) - Students make their own video.
Block 5: Practicals (20 min) - Students present their video & feedback.
