Karin Groten is a biologist with strong scientific management experience, and solid background in plant biology, with particular interest in plant-microbe interactions. Karin was the scientific coordinator of the International Max Planck Research School "The Exploration of Ecological Interactions with Molecular and Chemical Techniques" from 2004 until 2015, and a research group leader in the Department of Molecular Ecology since 2008. In 2016 she took over the position of research coordinator at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology and heads the library and the press office (Research Services Unit). Her major areas of qualifications and expertise include:

• Third Party Funding, grants and funding possibilities, grant management.
• Scientific Boards.
• Communication and Coordination with the Max Planck Society
• Networking/collaboration with further research institutions, university, local and regional authorities; communication with stakeholders.
• Cooperation agreements, intellectual property rights, legal aspects of open access publishing.
• Scientific publications, open access publishing.
• Press and public relations, outreach activities.
• Technology Transfer.
• Research, publications and presentations in the field of plant-microbe interactions combining molecular biology and ecological field work; supervision of students working on plant-arbuscular mycorrhiza interactions and the effect of smoke-derived signaling.
• Dr. rer. nat. in biology from the University of Muenster (Germany).
• Languages: fluent in English and German (native), French and Spanish (conversant).
