Postdoctoral position in the chemical laboratory of the MS facility

We are seeking candidates for one postdoctoral position for the chemical laboratory of the mass spectral facility. The research projects in our laboratory are mostly devoted to identification of semiochemicals, substances mediating interactions among living organisms (e.g. insects x insects or insects x plants) and to the elucidation of their biosynthetic pathways. The preparation of samples to confirm identification of semiochemicals, synthesis of 2H, 13C or 15N labeled compounds, together with incubation assays of the labeled compounds in living organisms or in cell cultures, will be the principal part of the postdoctoral project.

Candidates should have a good background in organic synthesis, however experience in molecular biology is also welcome. The institute is international in character, with English the daily language. German language fluency is helpful for everyday life in Jena, but not required. We can provide a deep training in modern mass spectral methods for identification of volatile and polar compounds or proteins.

The Max Planck Institute is an equal-opportunity employer and especially encourages women to apply. Applications from handicapped persons will be favored when all other qualifications are equal. The position can be filled immediately. The postdoctoral position will be granted for an initial period of one year, with a possibility of later extension.
