Function and Regulation of Digestive Lipases in Lepidoptera

Lipases are vital in breaking down plant lipids for energy use and for moulting. Research is currently being undertaken to further characterize the various lipases of the cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera) in particular and other Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) in general. In addition to phylogenetic studies, the responses of the organism and its lipases to dietary lipase inhibitors are being explored.
